Are We Losing The Techno-war?

A hundred years ago life was simple. We lived in basic wooden houses with a few machines to crank or push stuff to do our chores. We rode a horse or buggy or walked to work or the store. Entertainment was reading a book or playing cards. If something broke, you fixed it with a tool or brute strength. Fast forward to today. With all the marvels of electronics and digital devices, the odds that something will break or fail are incredibly high. Think back to last week. Which item stopped running, didn’t work as expected, needed a battery, ink, recharging, or a new part? Did the cable, Internet, cell phone, blue-tooth, or MP3 go down again? How often does that happen? What did you do to fix it and how long did it take?

Setting Time On Your Computer

An accurate time reference is a fundamental requirement to many computer software applications. Although every Personal Computer incorporates an internal clock, it pays to check that the date and time settings are correct and this should be done routinely, every time the PC is turned on. For critical applications, the time base should be synchronized with a highly accurate external reference source.

Personal Computers are not designed to be perfect clocks. Their design has been optimized for mass production and low-cost rather than maintaining accurate time. Where time is crucial to the application, there are a number of precise external references available that enable computers to maintain accurate system time. This article looks at the various sources of time references to show how they can be utilized to maintain synchronized time on your computer.

Satellite Internet Access

Internet technology and the ensuing competition make the world go round and prices begin to fall. Remember the advertising competitions between the two top digital satellite television providers to gain subscribers from cable television providers? Well, they are at it again except offering satellite internet access.

It is not so much competing technology as it is just an alternative for those who live in areas inaccessible by cable or DSL (digital subscriber line) services. At present, satellite internet access is somewhat more expensive than these but provides greater bandwidth availability than dialup and cable access.
