Scrapbook Embosssing - For Elegance
Scrapbook embossing is a technique that creates a raised image on your scrapbook pages that you can not only see but also feel. It is a great way to add texture and dimension to any page. You can add embossing in numerous different colors for the lettering on the page, a frame around a photo or even special designs along a border for instance. All you need to do is to be creative and use your imagination.
As a technique, scrapbook embossing should be practiced repeatedly before actually putting the image into your scrapbook. You do not want to learn a new skill while attempting to create a beautiful scrapbook—one mistake and your hours of hard work can be destroyed. Also, you need to make sure that when embossing, you do not attempt to emboss over photos—the heat used in the process can damage or even destroy your treasured pictures.
Scrapbook embossing requires you purchase paper and rubber stamps, an embossing ink pad, embossing powders, some form of heat source, scrap paper to collect excess powder and a fine tipped paint brush.
Just stamp your desired image onto your paper and sprinkle the embossing powder generously over the image. Any excess powder will be collected on the scrap paper underneath but you can also use a fine tipped paintbrush to brush away any excess powder from the image. You will now need to use some form of heat source – ideally a special embossing heat tool but an iron will work just as effectively on the back of the page provided the heat is not left too long otherwise the page could burn. You need to apply this heat just long enough so that the powder melts – no longer.
But if you would prefer an easier option - why not try readymade embossed images on your scrapbook pages. Most scrapbooking stores these days have taken the hard work away from you and come up with, it seems, every design and theme in every color imaginable that you can use straight away. No more need for messy powders or scorched papers.
For a really elegant look to your scrapbook album why not consider having the cover and spine embossed professionally. There are numerous companies available that specialize in this technique and the finished album you will receive is a beautiful tribute to your precious memories.
