Solo Professionals Who Want Success Need Extraordinary Leadership
Leadership especially what makes extraordinary leadership continues to be a hot topic because leadership is one of the primary factors in the success of any organization. In fact, leadership development has become the number one request when seeking executive coaching or corporate coaching.
Yet, the leadership trap continues in many published works, seminars and traditional training programs that leaders are born not made. To believe this ridiculous statement only shows that people who make this statement fail to understand human potential.
Let’s set the record straight. Leaders are made and not born. Period, end of subject. Our country has provided and continues to provide incredible opportunities for individuals to be made into extraordinary leaders.
Years ago, I read the following about a certain individual:
- Failed in business
- Defeated in the legislature
- Failed in business again
- Elected to state legislature
- Defeated as speaker for the state legislature
- Defeated for elector
- Lost U.S. Congressional seat race
- Achieved a seat in US Congress
- Lost that seat in Congress
- Lost a race for U.S. Senator
- Ran and lost for Vice-President
- Ran second time and lost second time as U.S. Senator
- Elected 16th President of the United States of America
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, reaffirmed that leaders are made, not born when he wrote these words: “That some achieve great success, is proof to all that others can achieve it as well.”
To avoid this leadership trap of leaders being born not made begins by embracing the belief that everyone has the potential to be a leader. Through the use of positive belief statements or positive affirmation statements is one successful self leadership strategy that can be utilized by any solo professional who wants to achieve extraordinary leadership.
Why this trap is still around in the 21st century defies reason. Maybe, those who believe in this trap do not want you as a solo professional to see yourself as a leader who achieve incredible success.
